I knew Sophie and Tom’s wedding was going to be a good one from their beachy engagement shoot earlier in the summer. They were both so relaxed and lovely, and that carried right through into their wedding day.
We had actually met Sophie and her family a couple of years earlier when we photographed her cousin’s wedding, so it was really lovely to see some familiar faces again – and even more special to see how the family had grown, with cousin Jess and her new husband Freddie’s new baby there to celebrate with them too.
A clifftop Grand Villa Heights wedding in Scarborough
Myself and my video associate Jake captured Sophie and Tom’s photography and video, and we had an absolute blast from start to finish. Grand Villa Heights is such a beautiful setting in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, with clifftop sea views stretching out from the grounds and the ceremony room itself. The huge glass wall behind the ceremony gives you those gorgeous coastal views while you’re saying “I do”, and it makes such a beautiful backdrop for the day.
Confetti, the Singing Waiters and a conga line
One of my favourite moments was their epic confetti walkway, with the stunning clifftop views behind them. Add in lots of fabulous conversations, plenty of laughter and the Singing Waiters getting everyone up on their feet, and the atmosphere was incredible. There was singing, dancing and even a full-on conga line making its way out onto the terrace!
Later on, James Alexander DJ had the dancefloor buzzing, and safe to say we were not short of fun dancefloor moments to capture.
A tip for Grand Villa Heights wedding couples
A little tip if you’re considering Grand Villa Heights: being right on the coast means you can get some pretty impressive sea breezes! If you’re planning a hairstyle with loose pieces around your face, it’s worth keeping the wind in mind when chatting to your stylist. Those clifftop views are absolutely worth it, though – and they make for some brilliant portraits.
The team at Grand Villa Heights were also fantastic to work with. They kept everything running so seamlessly throughout the day, which made our job so much easier and, most importantly, meant Sophie and Tom could simply relax and enjoy their wedding without having to worry about what was happening next.
A beautiful coastal venue, a brilliant couple, familiar faces, a lot of laughter and one very busy dancefloor – exactly the kind of wedding we love capturing.
